    Twelve year old Warren Taylor, decides he no longer wants to be called by his boring name. Instead he will go by “War”. After all he decides he is no longer in elementary school .With summer winding down we find War about to embark upon a preadolescent journey into middle school. He faces the usual fears and insecurities of starting a new school while still enjoying his childhood pals, and the changing relationship with his neighbor, Susie Tanner.Along the way he has to deal with the neighborhood bully who is determined to make his life miserable. War, aka Flash, enjoys unexpected success in track and is reminded about what friendship really is. The middle school experiences bring about changes in Warren’s attitude, personality, and his relationships. At the end of his first year he is definitely not the same young man and begins contemplating his summer of freedom.Twelve year old Warren Taylor was getting ready to start middle school. The summer has slipped past and now he was faced with the reality of going back to school.“Mom, I don’t feel very good. I think I am coming down with something,” I told her.“I’m sure you are dear.”“You are?” I said hopefully.“Yes. The medical term is Scareditis.”“Wow, is it serious? I mean is it contagious or anything cool like that?”“I’m sure several of your friends have come down with it tonight.”“So I should stay home tomorrow?”“Oh heavens no dear. The only cure for Scareditis is to go to school and face your fears.”This began the start of the sixth grade and new adventures that would find him dealing with the neighborhood bully, finding unexpected success in track and a change in his relationship with his old pals.By the end of the school year he was definitely not the same Warren Taylor. He had survived and could now look forward to the summer and spending time with his buddies and Susie Tanner, his neighbor across the street.
